Perfectly Staged Solution For College’s Grade Two Listed Chapel

Need:

Worksop College needed an easy-to-assemble, easy-storage, cost-effective stage to enable them to present orchestral and choral concerts in the college chapel.

St Cuthbert’s Chapel, a Grade Two Listed Building, is at the heart of the college, a co-educational day and boarding school in Nottinghamshire.

Staging is needed to level out the stepped, altar area to accommodate musicians and singers. The college previously used a fit-for-purpose ‘home-made’ stage which was not in keeping with the chapel surroundings. It was also time-consuming to erect and dismantle and storage presented an issue.

Action:

Property Services Manager Mike Myers contacted staging manufacturers Mainstage for advice.

“This was a really awkward space to deal with,” says Mike. “But Mainstage came up with an amazing solution for us.”

Mainstage’s Topdeck Cameo system, with additional bespoke decks and legs, was supplied. The system was painted black to match the marble altar.

Benefits:

The altar can now be levelled within 40 minutes rather than the previous two days.

The easy-to-store system stacks into itself and takes up the space of a small desk.

Subsequently, the college bought a larger Topdeck system from Mainstage which integrates with the first system to provide super-size staging for the college’s Great Hall for speech days and larger events.

The systems, complete with relevant rails and guards, comply with all health and safety and legal requirements.

“This is a truly amazing piece of equipment which looks superb,” says Mike Myers. “I cannot sing its praises enough. We are also impressed by Mainstage’s high level of technical expertise and customer care.”
