For years now, we’ve worked with clients as diverse as TV production companies and village hall committees to deliver the right staging or seating solution at the right price. We know that your budget can often feel like the single driving factor in what you order – but should it be?
Staying Safe Walking the Boards
We’d argue that the single most important consideration – among many, including price and appearance – is the safety and well-being of everyone who uses them. This should be the first question you ask yourself when you’re starting to narrow down choices, and nothing that doesn’t reassure you should be left on the list.
Everything from build quality, through stability, to ensuring you have the right amount of space for your performers and no dangerous, sharp edges – or anything which might splinter and create them – should be taken into account here.
That risk – that damage may mount up to make a stage unsafe – is just part of the consideration of stage quality. Will it look great in your venue? Will it keep looking great after a few seasons’ performances, with feet scuffing at the boards?
Does your stage present the total package?
If you can’t honestly answer ‘yes’ to these questions, you’ve got a quality problem.
The Price is Right
So the question becomes – how do you budget for the right stage? The temptation to cut corners and find something ‘almost’ good enough is close to irresistible, but it still must be resisted.
Recently we looked at crowdfunding as a way to fund a stage, but it’s also a great way to involve your patrons, visitors, and your community when you want to make sure your stage is a quality product.
This isn’t an area where false economies can be risked; we work closely with our clients because we love the theatre, we love music, we love live performances, and we make sure that any Mainstage product carries a seal of approval – because you should never spend your time on stage nervous that your support will fall through and see you in hospital.
